These Pink Medinilla Blooms are some of the largest tropical flowers that grow in my garden in Jamaica. I painted them in acrylic heavy body paints using a blocky brushwork technique that emphasises the impressionistic effect of the uneven light filtering between the curly dark leaves that form a canopy over you, as you stand to admire the flowers.. The strong vertical lines help to give the feeling of vibrant growth and the dramatic lighting is suited to the scale of these blooms, which are about 18" long.

The painting is quite impressionistic and has rich tones, glowing pinks and dark greens, applied with large flat brushes and gestural brushstrokes. Painted on a quality stretched canvas, with the sides painted a dark grey, this painting is ready to hang or can be framed by the collector for a more finished look.
