I love to walk at Rainham Marshes, where you can feel quite alone with the sky, the water and the reeds, listening to the bird calls and watching for wildlife hiding in the reed beds.

This was my first, pure watercolour rendition of this scene, which I then challenged myself to try in mixed media - see versions II and III. This original version features soft, muted colours, gestural marks, and has a very calm feel about it.

This painting was exhibited at the juried 57th Essex Open Exhibition at the Beecroft Gallery, Southend-on-Sea, from November 2016 - February, 2017.

Earlier this year (April 2018) it was chosen to be a part of the Viewpoints exhibition, with the Rooftop Collective, at the Espacio Gallery in Shoreditch, London.
