This is the finale of my painting to benefit White River Fish Sanctuary:
The Story So Far:
I’ve been delighted to create this large scale acrylic painting with texture to help the marine environment!
'Coral Crevice 1’ was inspired by a photo taken by Belinda Morrow, one of the founders of the White River Fish Sanctuary in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I offered to paint the 1metre square piece with a view to helping to raise funds for the sanctuary.
The WRFS is helping the reefs and the community in diverse ways, including:
- improving fish catches for the local fishermen, by improving methods
- monitoring and protecting turtle nesting sites
- coral gardening and replenishing the damaged reefs
- education and community involvement with events like sponsored swims.
The Jamaican Inn Foundation (the charitable arm of the Jamaica Inn hotel) is instrumental in keeping funds flowing to the WRFS in order to facilitate all their endeavours. Seeing the impact and importance of their environmental work, I was keen to contribute in any way possible.
(Read more about how I added texture to the painting in my previous blog post.)
New Update:
Adding Fish and Coral to the Painting:
The subject matter of this painting was a real joy for me to paint, as it took me right back to my scuba diving days, when these Black Bar Soldierfish were plentiful on every dive. We would see them especially when visiting the old plane wrecks, in Negril, under almost every ledge and lurking in crevices like this one. The view looking up towards the light, shafting through the water column, is somewhat symbolic of the hope that WRFS represents for the future and health of the Ocho Rios Reefs.
The Finished Painting:
I am very happy with the finished result, now framed in a classic, simple hand-made wooden frame, panted white. and I’m happy to say the painting has made its way to Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, where it is on display, attracting attention for interested bidders to go to the Jamaica Inn’s auction page to bid on the painting, through December, 2021.

If you would like to donate something smaller to help with the work of the WRFS, please visit their Global Giving Page here:

Thanks ever so much for following the story of this painting and I hope to have some good news to share with you in the New Year about how much we raised to help the WRFS to help the marine world.
Happy Holidays, Everyone,
Susan
